    • 1. What exactly is The U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship?
This is the annual USGA Championship for amateur women 25 and older! It attracts an international field, with the majority of the players from the United States. 132 women will compete, with the top 64 proceeding to match play. The winner will receive the Mildred Gardinor Prunaret trophy, donated at the tournament's inception by Brae Burn's very own member.

      2. What is the USGA?

Founded in 1894 -- just three years before Brae Burn -- the USGA is the nation's governing body for the game of golf, conducting national golf championships for the best amateur golfers across the country. A non-profit, its mission is to "Champion and advance the game of golf to ensure a thriving, welcoming and sustainable future." It is truly an honor to host a USGA Championship.

      3. What is the format for the tournament?

Players are welcome to play practice rounds the Thursday and Friday before the competition. Beginning Saturday, 36 holes of stroke play are played over two days. The top 64 will then advance to match play. Brackets will be set—just like March Madness—and over four days, golfers advance until there are just two standing. On the last day, these two golfers will play 18 holes of match play to determine the Champion.

      4. Who gets to play?

If you are 25 years or older, and have an index better than 9.5, you have an opportunity to qualify. Some players qualify for the tournament based upon past performance, but most players must qualify during the summer at a regional qualifying site. At each regional qualifier, only a handful of players will qualify after a one-day stroke play tournament. The final field will consist of 132 players who come to Brae Burn.

      5. When does the tournament take place?
      September 5-12, 2024
9/5 Thursday & 9/6 Friday: Practice rounds for all 132 players
9/7 Saturday & 9/8 Sunday: 36 holes of stroke play. The top 64 will advance to Match Play
9/9 Monday: Top 64 Players compete in Match play

  • Volunteer FAQs
    • 1. How many volunteers do we need?
We are targeting 250 volunteers. All volunteers will need to sign up on our website. When you sign up, you will purchase your uniform for the event. The uniform will be a Peter Millar shirt, 1/4 zip pullover, and golf hat. The cost for the uniform and meals during the tournament is $155. Extra shirts can be purchased for $50 each.

      2. When do you need volunteers?
The most volunteers will be needed over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be 44 threesomes going out. We will need scorers for each group and marshals and forecaddies over the course. No matter which days of the week you are available, we will do our best to find the right position for you.

      3. How much time will I need to volunteer for?
We are hoping that most people will volunteer for at least two four-hour shifts. That said, we would greatly appreciate all volunteers who can add extra shifts.

      4. The event is almost six months away, why do I need to volunteer now?
Great question. We will need over 250 volunteers and we hope to have as many Brae Burn members as possible. The sooner we know how many Brae Burn members we have, the sooner we will know if we need to widen our reach. We also need to order uniforms and there is a three-month lead time for them!

      5. What if something comes up between now and the tournament?

Things do come up, just please let us know as soon as possible!

      6. I really don’t know much about Volunteering; how do I learn more?
That’s expected. You don’t need to know what position you want to volunteer for right now. Some positions require walking the course, others are more sedentary. We will help you figure out the right position for you. Please don't let lack of information keep you from signing up.

      7. Can I pair up as a volunteer?
Absolutely. That’s why knowing who will be volunteering early will help us to meet requests.

      8. Is it fun to volunteer?
We are confident that you will have a great time. Most people who have participated in USGA events wholeheartedly agree that volunteering is a special experience.  You are part of a special event and you have front row seats. There is a magical quality to the event that is hard to find anywhere else and the competitors really appreciate your efforts!
